Sanchez named region's Player of the Year
The Gila Valley Region champion Kofa Kings placed six players on its All-Region first team, including Player of the Year Sergio Sanchez.
Sanchez hit .463 this year with five home runs and 29 RBI. He was 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA on the mound, striking out 43 in 40 innings.
Other Kings on the 19-player first team were Albert Alvarez, Simon Corea, Timmy Lee, Blake Johnston and Claudio Valencia.
San Luis had five players (Juan Martinez, Ruben Gonzalez, Juan Gomez, Sergio Portugal and Alejandro Garcia), as did Yuma High (Jesus Garcia, Roman Morales, Luis Reyes, Pancho Gomez and Alex Stratton). The remaining three came from Cibola (Krysthian Leal, Alex Miranda and Danny Vega.) Jesus Garcia was the lone freshman of the group.
Gila Ridge sophomores Ryan Householder and Lance McLaren were named to the region's second team.
The teams were voted on by the five Gila Valley Region coaches.
