San Luis got a last minute goal from Leo Moreno to seal a 3-1 soccer win over Phoenix-Central High School.
Raul Ordorica started the scoring right away with a goal in the 2nd minute off an assist from Moreno. Ten minutes later, Ordorica assisted Andres Elizalde who scored in the 12th minute.
“They got 10 shots compared to our 15,” said San Luis coach Ian McDougall. “But almost all of their shots were from 25-35 yards out and either went way over, way wide or were really easy for our goalkeepers to grab. I didn't really feel like they were a threat.”
Despite the two-goal margin, McDougall thought they could have put the game away much earlier.
“I was more disappointed that we had a lot of opportunities really early in the game. I felt that if we could just put them away right in the beginning, it could have been a walk in the park for us.”
On Friday, the Sidewinders take on Yuma High, which is coming off a 2-1 victory over Cibola.

Gila Ridge sweeps at Yuma High meet
Gila Ridge went 4-0 including a nail-biting victory over Cibola 33-32 Wednesday night.
“We've always had close matches against Cibola,” said Gila Ridge coach Dave King. “I think the last three times we've met, it's come down to the last match. They're all tough kids, everybody top to bottom, and it came down to a few close individual matches as well.”
Nathan Mendivil (106) had four pins on the night, while Emilio Castro (195) and Kainoa Renaud (220) each went 4-0 as well.
Gila Ridge beat Kofa 72-0, Yuma High 50-15 and Centennial 60-15. The three local teams will meet again next Wednesday at the city wrestling championship.
