Matadors win in overtime
The Arizona Western men's basketball team made its free throw down the stretch, while former Matador Chris Solomon couldn't make his.
It proved the difference in the Matadors' 71-67 win at Phoenix College on Wednesday.
The Matadors (13-4 overall, 8-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) went 6 for 10 in the extra period, while Solomon was 3 for 8 as his Bears (11-6, 5-4) were 4 for 10.
Anthony Alston led the Matadors with 14 points and six assists making his second straight start at point guard.
“Anthony did a really good job on stopping Chris Solomon, and he's been the difference in our team in the last two games,” coach Charles Harral said.

AWC edges Phoenix
Arizona Western took its first lead of the second half with 3:42 left in a 64-61 win at Phoenix College on Wednesday.
Samantha Wallace scored 27 for the Matadors (12-5 overall, 5-3 Arizona Community College Athletic Association), who snapped a two-game losing streak — their longest since 2010. It also ended a six-game win streak for the Bears (9-8, 3-5)
Imari Lyons scored 12 despite missing a chunk of the first half with an injury.
“Imari was a warrior, since she was basically playing on one leg tonight,” coach Patrick Cunningham said. “And Samantha is still learning the nuances of the game, but tonight, she took what they gave her and made some big shots. We also really stepped up our aggressiveness defensively, which made up for some errors on the offensive end.”
