Crims fall to losers bracket

Jazmin Reed made sure No. 12 Yuma didn't get shutout in the hit or runs column in its first round state tournament game, but the Criminals still lost 4-1 to No. 5 Tucson-Sunnyside.

Reed singled in the seventh inning for the team's only hit of the game. She moved into scoring position on Jessie Aguirre's ground ball and scored on a passed ball.

Yuma had one other base runner in the game, striking out 16 times.

"We couldn't touch her," Yuma coach Liz Huyck said of Sunnyside's starting pitcher, who will likely throw on Tuesday against Cibola. "She was easily the fastest pitcher we've seen all season long."

Isabel Villalobos held her own in the circle, allowing six hits. Sunnyside scored twice on solo home runs and made it a 4-0 game on a two-RBI double.

The Criminals will host Tuesday's loser's bracket game against No. 13 Phoenix-North at 4 p.m. North lost 9-0 at Cibola on Saturday.
