YUHSD welcomes families to open house

The Yuma Union High School District invites students and their families to attend open houses at all district schools starting Thursday and continuing into next week.

Schedules have been varied to accommodate parents, according to a YUHSD news release.

At Yuma High School, 400 S. 6th Ave., visitors are invited to Snider Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. After the official welcome, guests will visit classrooms from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

Cibola High School, 4100 W. 20th St., will host its open house Monday from 6:15 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. Parents may pick up their children's schedules in the cafeteria prior to the official welcome in the auditorium at 6:55 p.m. Classroom visitation with bell cues begins at 7:25 p.m.

Gila Ridge High School, 7150 E. 24th St., holds open house Tuesday. Schedules may be picked up in the student dining room at 5:45 p.m. The welcome will take place in the Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Classroom visits are from 7 to 8:25 p.m.

On Aug. 26, Kofa High School, 3100 S. Avenue A, holds its open house. As the school is making an effort to conserve resources as part of a "green campaign," students are asked to share their schedules since those will not be printed. Classrooms are open from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

San Luis High School, 1250 N. 8th Ave., has open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27. Teachers will be available in the cafeteria and the Competition Gym grouped by department.

Meanwhile, Vista Alternative High School, 2350 Virginia Drive, will host its open house from 5:15 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10. Culinary arts students will be cooking and parents are invited to attend the Title I parent meeting from 5:15 to 5:30 p.m. Classroom visitations take place between 6 and 7 p.m.

Anybody seeking further information can call the individual schools: Cibola, 502-5700; Gila Ridge, 502-6400; Kofa, 502-5400; San Luis, 502-6100; Vista, 343-2521; and Yuma, 502-5000.

Several activity and athletic clubs will have booths set up to display achievements and distribute information. YUHSD said it is an excellent time for parents to learn about goals established for students and meet teachers, but there will not be time for conferences. Those wanting a conference are welcome to schedule one for a later date by leaving names and telephone numbers on a sign-in sheet.
