Man arrested for posing as high school student
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for forgery and sexual conduct with a minor after allegedly posing as a high school student, a spokesman from Yuma Police Department said.
Anthony M. Avalos, of Yuma, was fraudulently attending Kofa High School and Vista Alternative School intermittently since September 2008, according to a news release from YPD.
YPD Sgt. Clint Norred told the Yuma Sun Wednesday evening that the criminal investigation began Wednesday after officials at the high school brought it to the attention of the school resource officer.
Norred said the investigation is still in the initial stages and right now revolves around false documents.
According to the release, Avalos was interviewed and was arrested for the forgery and sexual conduct with a minor.
Yuma Union High School District #70 is fully cooperating with this active investigation, according to the release.
Yuma Union High School District Superintendent Toni Badone said Kofa officials acted "swiftly and appropriately."
"I appreciate the care taken by the Kofa High School administration," Badone said.
