New school board member steps down

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the Somerton community for taking the time to go out and vote for me in the general election for the Somerton school board.

After receiving as many votes as I did, I had a choice to make. In October, the Somerton School District hired me as an alternative classroom teacher, and I immediately called the Yuma County School Superintendent's Office to be removed from the ballot, but the ballots were already printed.

By law, school board members cannot work for the school district that they govern. I had to make a decision, which wasn't easy, but I believe I can make a bigger impact with the students by working directly with them.

Therefore, I have chosen to resign my elected position to the school board.

Again, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support.
