YUHSD offices, schools closed Friday

Yuma Union High School District facilities, offices and all campuses will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to noon Friday to allow staff to attend a districtwide in-service.

Students will not have school Friday as YUHSD will be holding its annual professional learning day at Gila Ridge High School, themed “What You Do Matters.” Students will return to school on Tuesday, after the Presidents' Day holiday.

Keynote speakers for the development day will include Col. Robert C. Kuckuk, commanding officer at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, and Jon Gordon, a best-selling author and inspirational speaker.

Kuckuk will speak about the connections between the military, education and the local economy, and Gordon will share content that can be found in some of his books, including “The Energy Bus,” “The No Complaining Rule” and “One Word that Will Change Your Life.”

In addition to the keynote addresses, teachers and other staff will attend three breakout sessions with over 25 subjects to choose from.

“The topics cover a wide range ... so that YUHSD teachers can learn more about community connections for their students,” stated YUHSD. “Presenters include many Yuma community leaders, partner organizations and teacher leaders in the education profession.”
