ON DECK: Weird day in the sports world
As I was perusing the interwebs finding a subject for this On Deck, a sports website had the following three headlines:
“Braun admits consulting PED clinic founder”
“Cards' Carpenter likely out for 2013 season”
“Source: Te'o takes indefinite leave from Twitter”
And I couldn't help but think on what planet are any of these stories news? Ryan Braun finally admits to using after failing a drug test during his MVP season? The heck you say. Chris Carpenter, whose initials I believe are DL, is going to miss the season? No way!
Then there's the coup de gras: Manti Te'o leaving his beloved Twitter. Now, I've tried to stop following this story, as my original interest in this was more journalistic than anything — how can so many media organizations, not just Te'o, be duped by this? Now it's just turned into a soap opera. And the latest act has Te'o leaving the main mechanism in which the prank on him was pulled.
What a day for shocking sports stories.
