Bourguignon in second after one day

After one day at the Division III State Golf Tournament, assistant coach Greg Abbott said Yuma Catholic is right where it needs to be.
The Shamrocks are in second place with a 299, two strokes behind Desert Christian and three ahead of Snowflake. The top six teams are separated by eight strokes at Antelope Hills Golf Course’s south course.
The individual side is just as close, again with a Shamrock where he wants to be. Grady Bourguignon is in a second-place tie with a 4-under-par 68, one stroke behind Snowflake’s Kyle Jones for the lead. It’s a cluster at the top, with the top 10 golfers separated by just six strokes.
Joey Pickels is sitting in an 11th-place tie with a 74. Max Coffeen shot a 76, Jacob Harman an 81 and Josh Hodges an 83.
“We’re in the position we want to be in,” said Abbott, who’s filling in for head coach Bob Anderson. Anderson  is in Minnesota attending his daughter’s college graduation. “Obviously, Grady played excellent and Joey had his normal good round, too. Max held in there, too. You can’t ask for more.”
Abbott said Kody Boyd will start today’s final round in place of Hodges on Antelope Hills’ north course.
“He’s a straight shooter and the course is more narrow,” Abbott said. “He hits balls pretty straight. He’s the best shot for our team.”
