Sex offender has new address in city of Yuma
The Yuma Police Department is informing the community of a Level 2 sex offender's new address.
Sheldon Troy Durand, 46, is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 174 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is now residing at 340 S. 1st Ave., #1.
Durand was convicted of two counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor in June of 2004 in Yuma County Superior Court after entering a plea agreement on the charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and received lifetime intensive probation.
Durand had sexual contact with a female victim, who he knew, who was between the age of 13-15 years old.
Durand is not wanted by law enforcement. The YPD is releasing information about Durand's new address pursuant to the community notification law on sex offenders.
Offenders are categorized in three levels. Level 1 is a low risk to reoffend, Level 2 an intermediate risk and Level 3 a high risk. Durand is a Level 2 sex offender.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is responsible for registering sex offenders who reside in Yuma County. This includes new registrations, address changes and/or updates, and confirming offenders that have moved out of the area. During September 2012, the YCSO:
• Registered one new sex offender.
• Confirmed two sex offenders moved out of the area.
• Received 10 sex offender address changes.
• Conducted 23 sex offender compliance checks.
• Tracked a total of 321 sex offenders in Yuma County.
