Four area teens die in accident
Four youths died Friday morning when the vehicle they were riding in rolled over and ejected several of the passengers.
The accident happened just after 10 a.m., as a group of five juveniles were traveling at a high rate of speed on Avenue C, between County 13th and 14th streets, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office said.
The male driver of the 1992 Honda Accord apparently lost control of the car and it rolled several times, the sheriff's office said. None of the juveniles inside the vehicle were wearing seat belts, the sheriff's office said, adding that all four students, three males and one female, died at the scene.
One additional female was taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center by the Rural/Metro Fire Department, and was listed in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.
The names of those involved were not released pending family notification and the accident was still being investigated as of 1 p.m. No further information on the accident was made available by the sheriff's office.
All four teens were students at Cibola High School, according to an official at the school.
A team of grievance counselors was expected to be sent to the affected school to offer their support to any students or faculty members who might need it, said Yuma Union High School District officials.
Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the sheriff's office at 783-4427.
