God is awake. He sees. He is able.

Almost 3,000 years ago a worship leader wrote this powerful praise song in Psalm 121. “I lift my eyes up to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth….He will not let your foot slip. He who watches over you will not slumber or sleep. The Lord will watch over your life, your coming and going, both now and forever.”
The only survivor of a ship wreck ended up on an uninhabited island. After a little time he managed to build a primitive shelter, in which was placed the “little all” he had saved from the sinking ship. He prayed to God for rescue. Anxiously the horizon was scanned each day for a ship that could be signaled to deliver him from the situation.
One day when returning from a hunting excursion for food, his dwelling was in flames. Despair prevailed. Every possession was gone. Understandably it was the worst thing that could occur…he angrily cursed at God.
Less than a day passed when a ship arrived. “We saw your smoke signal and came,” the captain said.
God is awake. He sees. He is able. Angry words spoken in despair will not prevent divine response to a sincere desperate appeal.
