Raiders crush Sidewinders
Brandi Badilla pitched a one-hitter as Cibola beat San Luis 13-0 on Wednesday.
Badilla struck out three and went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs as the Raiders finished the Gila Valley Region schedule undefeated.
Alex Roman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and Becca Wendt was 1-for-2.
The Raiders defeated Yuma High 18-0 in five innings on Tuesday.
Cibola (28-2 overall, 10-0 GVR) will find out its seed in the playoffs today.
San Pasqual takes seventh
With just three girls competing, the San Luis girls track team took seventh in the 15-team Phoenix Christian Twilight Meet on Wednesday.
Aileen Velarde set school records in the 400-meter (1 minute, 6 seconds) and the 100 hurdles (18.42), taking first and fourth, respectively. Competing in the long jump for the first time, she took third with a leap 13 feet, 10 inches.
Tatianna Dalton was third in the triple jump (26-3) and Gina Rivera was fifth in the shot put (28-5).
Corona wins pole vault
Yuma Catholic’s Paul Corona won the pole vault at the Lake Havasu last-chance qualifier with a mark of 14 feet, nine inches on Wednesday.
Coronoa, who has already qualified for state, was the only first-place finisher for the Shamrocks.
Four runners met the provisional time for state in the 800-meter run for YC. Sean Peters finished with a time of 2:05.6 and was followed by Robert Verdugo (2:09.0), Jacob Montchal (2:10.6) and Nico Franco (2:11).
Everette McKinney finished the 3,200 in 10:57 and John Barczynski threw the discus 112 feet — both marks met provisional times.
YC will compete in one more last-chance qualifier on May 7 at a meet at Valley Christian.
