YUHSD board eyes plans for Somerton
The Yuma Union High School District governing board will meet for a study session Tuesday to discuss long-term plans for building a high school in Somerton.
The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the YUHSD governing board room, 3150 S. Avenue A.
“YUHSD submitted application to the School Facilities Board (SFB) for construction of a high school in Somerton prior to 2007,” stated YUHSD.
“Somerton constituents understood prior to the economic collapse that YUHSD was high on the SFB list for funding of this school. Somerton officials are interested in knowing if YUHSD is still on the list and, if so, when can the district and community expect funding may become available for the construction of a high school in Somerton. In general, Somerton City Council is interested in understanding the process and how they might best be able to lend support toward the goal of a high school.”
Arizona SFB executive director Dean Gray will be at Tuesday's meeting to address both the governing board and the Somerton mayor and city council.
The board will discuss future SFB funding to the district, ways to work together with the community to ensure the best value to taxpayers, rules about leasing of property and about State Trust lands.
