Skillet, knife brawl wounds two

A fight involving an iron skillet and a knife sent two men to the hospital Sunday morning.

Yuma Police officers went to a disturbance in the area of the 2900 block of South 1st Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday to find Kenneth Spencer, 32, in an alley with stab wounds to his face and rib area and John Haynes, 38, inside a nearby apartment with a head injury. The initial investigation shows that Spencer was refusing to leave Haynes' apartment and a fight ensued, during which Spencer struck Haynes in the head with the skillet and Haynes responded by stabbing Spencer.

Both men were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center. Haynes was treated and released and Spencer was admitted for further treatment.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Witnesses with helpful information may call Detective Rene Angulo or Sgt. John Otero at the Yuma Police Department at 373-4700, or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
