Finding the power in practical spirituality
There need be no separation between our spirituality and our everyday lives; in fact, the more consistently we embody and express our core beliefs, the more effectively we tend to live each day. Brother Lawrence's exemplary “Practicing the Presence while washing the pots and pans” is a stunning reminder that we truly can bring a sublime awareness to an ordinary task.
Relying on Infinite Wisdom for guidance builds confidence in our ability to handle the events that may arise. Feeling the presence of Divine Love increases our own capacity to enjoy healthy relationships with others. Immersed in the Peace of God, we meet experiences with a calm serenity. What a difference it makes to practice the Presence at work, at home, in our neighborhoods, and in the world.
Let's not reserve a particular day of the week to visit our place of worship; rather, let's bring our spirituality into the least and greatest activities of our day. The love of humanity can begin by listening compassionately to a co-worker or a child. The wisdom of the universe may be accessed to make the best decision at a neighborhood gathering or high-level corporate meeting. The Peace of God is able to still an upset between people and lift them to a new understanding, if we are willing to invite It to the party!
A consistent and persistent application of the truths we hold dear can transform each day into a delightful one and make this world a wonderful place to live. As we rely on an Infinite Power for Good, we bring the highest and the best of ourselves to every day. Moving completely beyond lip service, our spirituality becomes congruent with our thoughts, words, and deeds, and that is what a practical spirituality is all about.
