New Fry's in the Foothills to open in August

Residents of the Foothills area no doubt have been watching construction of the new Fry's store in their neighborhood and looking forward to its opening with anticipation. That happy occasion is fast approaching as workers finish up the project.

The exact date for the store opening hasn't been announced yet but the company is in the process of planning for sometime in August, said Fry's spokeswoman JoEllen Lynn.

The new store, located on the south side of South Frontage Road just east of Fortuna Road, covers 104,224 square feet with a sales area of nearly 75,000 square feet. That makes it considerably larger than the 50,000s-square-foot store it is replacing at Pioneer Shopping Center. With the additional space, the new store will be able to offer several new and expanded features, Lynn said, including an instore coffee shop, a drive-through pharmacy and larger inventory of products.

Next door, a second building under construction will house a Chase bank.

The complex's new Fry's Fuel Center features 18 filling stations and is now open for business. For more information about Fry's new Fuel Accumulation program, visit www.frysfood.com.

As Fry's readies for the grocery store opening, it has hired 77 new associates and hiring is continuing, Lynn said. For more information about positions, call 1-877- 303-1648 or apply at the computer kiosk located in Fry's stores.

As for what will go into the soon to be vacated store at Pioneer Shopping Center, Lynn said that “there are no firm plans at this time on a sublease.”

Effective July 1, the CitiFinancial office, 1463 S. Yuma Palms Parkway, Suite 4, at Yuma Palms Regional Center, has changed its name to OneMain Financial.

The name change is to better distinguish the business with an identity that better fits who it is and what it does, explained Branch Manager Nitza Leyva-Miles. The change is in name only and will not impact the products and services provided, including both personal and home equity loans, on a customized basis.

OneMain Financial employees include Carlos Zamora and Carmen Orozco.

To celebrate the new name, the OneMain Financial Branch will hold a sweepstakes throughout the month of July. In addition, an official launch celebration event will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public.

It's Jeff Stoner and his wife, Christine, who are opening Steiner's European Deli at 2630 S. 4th Ave. (where A Bloomin' Florist previously was located, and before that a Village Inn Pizza).

I had a brain fade moment last week and gave Mr. Stoner a new first name for an item about the deli in last Sunday's Comings & Goings.

Sorry about that, Jeff.

By the way, the Stoners hope to be open for business Aug. 1.

Report Comings & Goings to jlobeck@yumasun.com or call Joyce Lobeck at 539-6853.
