San Luis launches cleanup program
Employees of the San Luis Public Works Department will be going door to door in the Arizona border city starting Tuesday to pick up landscape prunings, old or broken furniture, inoperable appliances and other items residents want to get rid of.
The city will be collecting discarded items in its annual neighborhood cleanup program that will continue through March.
Residents who want to get rid of items are asked to leave them in front of their homes at curbside at the beginning of the week that public works department employees are scheduled to visit their neighborhoods.
Apart from tree and plant prunings, old furniture and appliances, city workers will accept old tires that have been removed from the rims. Items that will not be picked up include waste from construction sites, such as roofing materials, concrete and dirt, abandoned vehicles, trailers, motor oil, pesticides and any household hazardous wastes.
From Tuesday through March 1, the public works employees will be picking up discarded items in Area 1, which consists of residential neighborhoods south of County 22nd Street, west of Main Street and north of Urtuzuastegui Street.
From March 4 through 8, they will be collecting items in Area 2, consisting of neighborhoods between Piceno Drive, Main Street, Urtuzuastegui Street and 4th Avenue.
From March 11 to 15, the pickup campaign moves to Area 3, located between Union Street, 4th Avenue, Urtuzuastegui Street and 6th Avenue.
From March 18 to 22, the workers will be picking up items in Area 4, consisting of those areas within Union Street, 6th Avenue, San Francisco Street and 8th Avenue.
And from March 25 to 29, the program moves to Area 5, consisting of all residential neighborhoods to the east of 8th Avenue.
