Game a reminder of a long dry spell

This Sunday marks another Super Bowl in which the Arizona Cardinals will not appear, much less win. And from the looks of the standings, the Phoenix Suns will not get anywhere near the NBA finals this year.

Yes, I remember the Cards made it to the Super Bowl in 2009, and that the Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001. And I recall the Suns made it to the NBA finals in 1976 and 1993.

But for the most part, when it comes to enjoying championship bragging rights, fans of Arizona's professional sports franchises have had to endure a mighty long dry spell.

One advantage we in the Yuma area have is that we have geographical and other ties to San Diego that allow us to claim that city's teams as our own.

So here's hoping that the Chargers – if not the Cardinals – make it to the Super Bowl a year from now.
