SUV rolls over at 4th and 22nd

A man and a woman were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center after a rollover collision Thursday evening.

The collision happened at about 6:10 p.m. at 4th Avenue and 22nd Street.

According to the Yuma Police Department, a sport utility vehicle making a left turn from the northbound lane of 4th Avenue turned in front of a southbound four-door sedan.

The right front of the sedan collided with the right passenger side of the SUV, causing the SUV to roll over.

The SUV came to rest on its left side in the intersection's west crosswalk, inches in front of a semi-truck hauling mail out of the post office. The semi-truck had been waiting for a green light in order to turn northbound onto 4th Avenue from 22nd Street.

The truck driver reversed his rig a few feet so the SUV driver could open his vehicle's back door and crawl out.

Emergency personnel with the Yuma Fire Department and Rural/Metro responded to the scene as police officers closed the area to through traffic.

Both drivers, the only occupants of their vehicles, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
