Staples offering Teacher Appreciation Day this Saturday
Teachers buying classroom supplies just got a little break, thanks to an event at Staples this Saturday.
The 6th annual Teacher Appreciation Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8. The first 100 teachers who arrive will receive a free bag containing a variety of pencils, pens, markers and other writing instruments.
Jevin Eagle, Staples executive vice president, said every year teachers spend up to $770 out of their own pocket for classroom supplies putting student readiness before their own welfare.
"We've known for a while how much sacrifice teachers make for their students," Connie Sharp, general manager of the Catalina Drive Staples, said.
And as an extra added incentive to get teachers out early to shop on a Saturday, Staples is offering a $10 coupon and free refreshments.
Meanwhile, free teacher rewards cards can earn them money on every $200 purchase made during a calendar quarter where they can get 2 percent refunded up to $15 back per quarter.
There is also a teacher bonus reward season through Sept. 15. Every $1 spent will count as $2 toward earning merchandise rewards.
"We want to offer teachers a way to save and show them they are important to us," Sharp said.
Customers can do their part for students as well by contributing to the Do Something 101 program. Bins will be stored near the front entrance where people may donate purchases or have $1 added to their receipts, and the funds and merchandise will be donated to the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club.
