Teddy bears to help cancer patients
Teddy bears with gift cards for cancer patients at Yuma Regional Medical Center will be collected at the Dec. 20 city blood drive.
The Yuma City Teddy Bear Blood Drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 3181 S. 4th Ave.
"As a way of thanking all donors, Holiday Hero pins will be given out at the drive. These will give the donors a chance to enter a special raffle, with a top prize of a $500 gift card," said Pam Ronstadt, marketing and communications coordinator for the Red Cross.
Anyone in good general health, weighing a minimum of 110 pounds and at least 18 years old can donate blood, she said. Donations of teddy bears are also needed.
Anyone who wishes to donate toys should call Carolyn Holland at 1-520-820-1187 or A.J. Mosqueda, in Yuma, at 782-0660.
Teddy bears will be given to anonymous cancer patients on Christmas day as a morale booster for those who spend time in chemotherapy, are in the hospital awaiting surgery or for other treatment.
