ON DECK: Big things in store for Cocopah Speedway
Tick, tick, tick tick …
The Evans Custom Concrete construction crew is racing against time as work progresses on the new grandstand at Cocopah Speedway.
Greg Burgess, the track's director of operations, even said Wednesday that the first race of the season is actually already under way as he watched the concrete company workers and others from BLT Companies lift heavy forms into place, wire together an intricate web of steel reinforcing bars, assemble new, massive forms for top and bottom footers, and do anything else they could find to move the process along as quickly as possible.
The first race date is Jan. 18.
When completed, the new grandstand will seat 4,000 fans comfortably.
Hopefully, the community understands the scope of this project and appreciates the investment being made by the Cocopah Indian Tribe.
My thought is, visiting racers and fans fell in love with this track a year ago. I can't wait to hear what they have to say when they see the changes that have taken place since they were last here.
