Three swimmers advance to finals

Three Yuma-area swimmers survived day one of the Arizona High School Swim and Dive Championships Friday.

From Gila Ridge, Emily Gough will compete in the 200-yard freestyle after placing 13th with a time of 1:56.70. Her teammate Weston Lines qualified in the 100-yard fly after placing 10th with a time of 53.13.

For Cibola, the lone survivor was Jesse Kaba, who finished 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.55.

Both the Hawks and the Raiders fell short in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing back to back.

The Hawks team that included Logan Osborn, Joseph Salerno and Hunter and Weston Lines finished 21st with a time of 3:30.68. Just ahead of them in 20th place was the Cibola team that included Alfredo Martinez, George Gould, Ryan Corbin and Danny Russell-Cheung. They swam a time of 3:30.61.

That same Cibola team also competed in the 200-yard medley relay. They finished 22nd with a time of 1:46.81.

Other individual performances for Cibola included Ryan Corbin in the 100-yard backstroke, who finished 19th with a time of 57.03, George Gould in the 500-yard freestyle, who finished 31st with a time of 5:11.42, and Danny Russell-Cheung in the 100-yard breaststroke, who finished 25th with a time of 1:04.21.

Gila Ridge compeititors who failed to qualify were Emily Gough in the 500-yard freestyle, who finished 17th with a time of 5:18.11, Weston Lines in the 100-yard freestyle, who finished 25th with a time of 49.76, and Joseph Salerno in the 200-yard individual medley, who finished 31st with a time of 2:08.32.
