YC boys 2nd at 16-team meet
The Yuma Catholic boys took second Friday at the San Manuel Invitational, finishing with 110 points trailing only Valley Christian's 148.
Rod Ford had second place finishes in the 400-meter run (50.9 seconds, hitting the qualifying time) and the high jump (5-foot-10) and took fourth in the 110 hurdles (11.4 seconds). Ed Harris won the 300 hurdles in 40.3 and took second in the 110 (15.19) and triple jump (39-8).
Paul Corona won the pole vault, clearing 13-0, and qualified in the triple jump with a season-best 39-5. Ernie Samaniego took third in the 300 hurdles and was part of the second-place 1,600 relay that finished in 3:38.
The girls took sixth with 38 points, despite having just 12 athletes at the event. Valley Christian scored 255 for the win.
The 1,600 relay of Haley Aivazian, Jackie Hill, Devon Graham and Charyssa Greenwell took second in 4:38. The 400 relay of Hill, Amy Ford, Alex Rosado and Melissa Zermeno took fourth in 55.1. Samantha Barczynski took fourth in the 1,600 (6:22).
