ON DECK: More Yuma teams get snubbed

Another sports season didn't do much to help how many area coaches feel about the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Many of the younger coaches are trying to learn how the power point system works while many of the older coaches are realizing it's pointless to learn how the power point system works.

Every Division I boys basketball team that finished with at least 13 power point wins made the state tournament except one: Cibola, which ended the regular season with a 15-3 record. The Raiders not only didn't make the playoffs, but they weren't even the last team out because they finished No. 28.

For the Division I girls, Kofa had an emotional final week of the regular season in which they won three games to secure a spot in the section tournament. Their chances looked good to make the state tournament as the No. 24 seed until the power points took effect. They bounced down to No. 25 then up to No. 23 before settling at No. 25 — on the wrong side of the state tournament's velvet rope.
