Matador baseball swept by Cochise

The Arizona Western baseball team lost a pair of games Tuesday at Cochise, 8-6 and 5-2.

The Matadors (20-13 overall, 8-8 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) led 5-1 early in the first game and 6-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Apaches (25-9, 11-5) scored three to take control of the seven-inning game.

Jose Rolases Rodarte (0-3) took the loss in relief for the Matadors. Starter Travis Garcia-Perreria allowed five earned runs in 4-2/3 innings.

Casey Scott had three hits and drove in two runs for AWC, while Jordan Atkinson has two hits and two RBIs.

The Matadors trailed the nightcap 5-0 after five before losing. Jeremy Alderman (4-4) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 4-2/3 innings. Hector Valenzuela and Ryan Escobar had two hits each for the Matadors.

It was the first time AWC was swept in a conference doubleheader this year.
