Two injured in Monday morning wreck
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in an early morning wreck on Monday that injured two people, one of them critically.
According to YCSO spokesman Capt. Eben Bratcher, at about 2:24 a.m. deputies responded to the area of 8th Street and Pritchard Avenue for a report of a single-vehicle accident.
A preliminary investigation has determined that the vehicle, which was being driven by 21-year-old John Morales, was traveling eastbound on 8th Street when he swerved and overcorrected, which caused the car to roll. It came to rest on the south side of the street.
Bratcher said a 21-year-old passenger in the vehicle, whose name has not been released, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered head trauma.
Both the driver and passenger were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. The passenger, however, was later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital.
The investigation is still ongoing, which is why charges have not yet been filed. Bratcher said he also did not know Morales' medical condition, only that he remained hospitalized.
