Best Veterinarian Clinic: Ironwood Veterinary Clinic
Dogs and cats can't vote, but their owners can speak for them. And in speaking for their pets, a majority of respondents in the Yuma Sun's annual poll of readers' preferences say Ironwood Veterinary Clinic is the place to go for animal care.
The clinic at 2632 S. Avenue B was name the area's Best Veterinary Clinic in 2010, in the Yuma's Best survey of the area's best businesses, services and recreational and entertainment venues.
Dr. Robert Perry, the owner of Ironwood, says the clinic performs comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care for an “active patient base” of about 9,000 cats and dogs.
Working with him are two associate veterinarians, Dr. Suzanne Stack and Dr. Ernesto Sandigo, plus a 15-member staff consisting of an office manager, three receptionists, a kennel technician, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants.
Aside from providing care during the regular hours, said Perry, Ironwood works with two other veterinary clinics in the area to provide after-hours emergency care for clients of any of three.
Ironwood also provides boarding services for clients when they go out of town and have to leave their animals home, he added.
Perry, a 1980 graduate of Ohio State University, came to Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground as a captain in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he purchased a veterinary clinic on 4th Avenue in 1986 and renamed it Ironwood Veterinary Clinic in anticipation of an eventual move to Avenue B. In 1991, the clinic moved to its current location.
Ironwood has won first place in Yuma's Best on multiple occasions, an accomplishment Perry attributes to “just our desire to do a good job for our patients or clients.”
He added, “We appreciate the recognition from our clients and our friends, and we will continue to do what we have been doing to deserve it.”
