School districts elect leaders
While Yuma Elementary District 1 and the Yuma Union High School District did not hold school board elections this year, many other local school districts did have elections.
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, election results from the county showed vote numbers for the county superintendent and various school district governing board members.
Numbers showed that Yuma County school superintendent incumbent Tom Tyree received 15,715 votes or 98.58 percent with 21 of 42 precincts reporting. Tyree ran unopposed.
Arizona Western College's District 4 saw 4,190 people voting Tuesday, with five of 13 precincts reporting. Olivia E. Zepeda received 1,736 votes at 40.42 percent; Doug Lee Mellon had 1,690 votes at 39.35 percent; and Fernando Quiroz had 852 votes at 19.84 percent.
Results from Arizona Western Community College District 5 were not immediately available Tuesday evening. A total of 276 people voted for write-in candidates, with five of 16 precincts reporting.
Crane Elementary School District 13 showed a total of 9,523 votes with seven of 17 precincts reporting. Mary Garcia had 2,080 votes at 21.84 percent; Jim D. Colby had 2,063 votes at 21.66 percent; Brenna Paulin had 1,997 votes at 20.97 percent; Juli Jessen had 1,899 votes at 19.94 percent; and John Blabe had 1,449 votes at 15.22 percent.
Somerton Elementary School District 11 showed a total of 2,040 votes with two of six precincts reporting. Leticia V. Yepez received 552 votes at 27.06 percent; Carlos Gonzalez had 426 votes at 20.88 percent; Fernando Villegas had 294 votes at 14.41 percent; C. David Gonzalez had 261 votes at 12.79 percent; Fern Soto had 256 votes at 12.55 percent; and Francisco Vasquez 244 votes at 11.96 percent.
Wellton Elementary School District 24 showed a total of 1,001 votes with two of three precincts reporting. Robin Rinehart had 321 votes at 32.07 percent; Mark A. Rivera had 252 votes at 25.17 percent; David Rodriguez had 226 votes at 22.58 percent; and Rosa Isel Bustillos had 201 votes at 20.08 percent.
Antelope Union High School District 50 showed a total of 1,813 votes with four of five precincts reporting. Danny Millner had 581 votes at 32.05 percent; Scott Ferris had 479 votes at 26.42 percent; Chandra Mann had 431 votes at 23.77 percent; and Alan Puccini had 318 votes at 17.54 percent.
Lastly, Mohawk Valley Elementary School District 17 had a total of 435 votes with all four precincts reporting. Melissa Sharp had 130 votes at 29.89 percent; Carole Henry had 128 votes at 29.43 percent; Michaela Roth had 101 votes at 23.22 percent; and Sandra Kerr had 76 votes at 17.47 percent.
