Challengers win races for judge, treasurer

With the final results of the Nov. 6 general election reported Friday, two close Yuma County races have been settled.

Yuma County Treasurer David Egeberg lost in his bid for re-election to challenger Angela Pancrazi Moreno by a spread of 366 votes. Pancrazi Moreno edged ahead to victory with 19,703 votes to Egeberg's final vote tally of 19,337.

Meanwhile, James Clark defeated Yuma County Superior Court Judge David M. Haws by a margin of 363 votes in that close race. Clark received 16,762 votes to Haws' final count of 16,399 votes.

In other Yuma County races, incumbent supervisors Lenore Lorona Stuart, Greg Ferguson, Russell McCloud and Tony Reyes handily won re-election while Russ Clark will be the new supervisor for District 3. Leon Wilmot ended up with 56.2 percent of the votes for his bid to become the new Yuma County sheriff. He received 22,572 votes to 16,100 votes for Ricardo Sandoval.

Incumbents for Yuma County superintendent, recorder, assessor and other judge seats were unopposed.

A total of 42,521 votes were tabulated in Yuma County for the election, for 56.34 percent of registered voters, according to the final results Friday.

As of Friday afternoon, 13 of the state's 15 counties have completed their work, announced Secretary of State Ken Bennett.

That leaves Pima and Maricopa counties to finalize their results, with 135,140 early and provisional ballots statewide remaining to be processed.

One state race that remains close is for Congressional District 2, noted the Secretary of State's Office. The race is between Ron Barber and Martha McSally. The lead has gone back and forth between the two candidates.

A state canvass to certify official election results for federal, statewide and legislative races is scheduled for Dec. 3.
