Walmart giving to nonprofits
Community members have the opportunity to help a local nonprofit receive a portion of a $1.5 million grant through an online nomination process.
Walmart is asking Facebook users to submit a 200-word description of how a local organization has impacted their community. Winning nonprofits will receive funds from Walmart's second annual “12 Days of Giving” campaign.
“Each of the ‘12 Days' will focus on a different giving theme, including hunger, military assistance and disaster relief,” stated Walmart officials.
Submissions will be accepted through Nov. 18. Users can visit the “Live Better” tab on Walmart's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/walmart to nominate a nonprofit that provides basic needs in their community. Participants can also submit a photo illustrating how the nonprofit helps the community. Grant recipients will be announced daily on Facebook and Twitter from Dec. 10-21.
“There are so many local nonprofits making a positive impact every day, and yet, oftentimes we don't hear enough about them or their needs. With this campaign, we want to recognize these organizations and the difference they are making in their communities,” said Sylvia Mathews Burwell, president of the Walmart Foundation. “This holiday season, we are asking and depending on consumers to tell us about the organizations in their communities who need our support. Together, we can help more people who need it most.”
