Two choices for polluted rivers
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I was watching the news the other night and they showed the New River in Imperial County and were talking about how filthy it is. This river is one of the few rivers in the country that runs south to north. The majority of rivers run north to south.
We, in Yuma, have the Colorado River which runs north to south. The United States guarantees so much water and that it meets a certain quality going into Mexico. Why doesn't the United States require Mexico to meet the same standards for water coming to the United States?
This water coming to the United States is very polluted and ends up in the Salton Sea. This, in turn, has caused major changes in the Salton Sea. The wildlife and water life are dying and the water stinks. It is not safe for any living thing.
We have two choices on this problem: first, we could demand that Mexico meet the same standards that we are required to meet; or second, if they refuse to meet these standards, we should dig a large channel and return their water to them.
How many millions of dollars have they authorized to try to fix this problem? This money could go to education.
