Soroptimist honors "Women helping Women"
Soroptimist International of Yuma is searching for applicants for its Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women.
The award was formerly known as the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award.
The award honors women who—through their professional or personal activities — "make extraordinary efforts on behalf of women and girls," according to a press statement from the local organization. Women can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else in the community.
Applications are available by contacting Michele Cohen at 336-7545 or mcohen@yumaregional.org. An electronic version of the application is also available. Applications must be returned to Soroptimist International of Yuma by Dec. 7.
"Nominees should be women who have made extraordinary differences on behalf of women and girls," according to the press statement.
Past recipients from around the nation have spearheaded an effort to open a domestic violence shelter, started a mentoring program for at-risk girls, or lobbied companies to provide on-site child care. Soroptimist International of Yuma will provide an award. In addition, the recipient will be eligible for additional cash grant awards at other levels of the international organization.
Soroptimist International of Yuma is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa. For more information go to Soroptimist.org.
