What is it?

It's a simple game of a word play, so to speak. Everyone likes to think they coin new words or phrases. Well, now you have a chance to share those neologisms with the rest of the world.

How do I play?

Create your own word out of two or three others. Your word must be original. Give your word a part of speech (i.e. noun, verb, adjective, preposition), a light-hearted definition, and use it in a sentence. Make sure you use punctuation in your sentence. Grammar monkeys will be watching you.

Give me an example.

Yumanite (noun) - Someone who is not native to Yuma but has lived here long enough to be considered a native. (From Yuma and prefix ‘ite,' meaning an inhabitant of a place.)

Sentence: The editor of 33.10 considers herself a Yumanite.

What do I win?

One randomly chosen winner will win a $25 gift certificate to a local bookstore.

How do you choose a winner?

One winner will be chosen randomly at the end of the month. We'll put your name in a hat (or a spreadsheet) and use an online randomizer to pick the winner. Sometimes we just close our eyes and point (yes, we're teasing).

What are the rules?

1. No profane words or hate speech. Keep it clean folks.

2. All submitted words must come with a definition and part of speech. Extra credit for words used in hilarious sentences.

3. Word must be original. 33.10 will check all words at Dictionary.com (an online dictionary Web site) or other reliable search engine.

4. Ways to play - Alteration: change or add at least two letters in a word to create a new word. Combination: combine two words (or three) to create a new word.

5. Entries become property of 33.10 and may be used in promotional material without compensation or further consent.

6. Deadline to receive words is noon, last Friday of the month.

How do I submit?

Send your items to 33.10, 2055 S. Arizona Ave., Yuma, AZ 85364 or e-mail them to submit@3310online.com. You can use the form on our Web site to submit items as well. Entries are due no later than noon the last day of the month.

Reader Comments
From the editor: Many of you have expressed concerns about some of the harsh anonymous comments from readers. To remedy that, we are introducing new features. You can create your own blog, publish your news and share your photos with the community. Once you fill out a simple form and leave a verifiable e-mail address, you can set up your profile page. It will display all of your contributions and allow you to track issues and easily connect with others.

We want our site to be a place where people discuss and debate ideas that foster stronger communities. We built this for you. Please take care of it. Tolerate broad thinking, but take action against obscene or hateful material. Make it a credible and safe place worth preserving and sharing.
