A word from the SAHRA President

The Southwest Arizona Human Resources Association is extremely proud to be a co-sponsor of the 2011 Workplace Excellence Awards.

Given the current economic climate, it is an impressive achievement for an organization to be nominated by their employees as being a great place to work. This says something about the people who work for these organizations as well as the organization itself. Things like pay and benefits, flexible work hours, training opportunities, etc., are very important to employees, but it is great leadership and being a part of the organization that will make a difference in this changing work environment. The nominated organizations get it!

What does an organization look like to be nominated for a Workplace Excellence Award? It is a workplace in which employees trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with. The employees at a great place to work feel genuinely appreciated. Many excellent Yuma organizations have been nominated and received a Workplace Excellence Award in the past, and the caliber in which the current organizations are to be measured against continues to rise.

Organizations that make the effort to create a great place to work reap the rewards of the effort — it shows in their employees, their customers and their business sustainability. On behalf of SAHRA, I congratulate all organizations that have been nominated: small, medium and large. I invite all organizations to stay informed of important employment issues and trends by joining our local HR association and sending a representative to our monthly meetings.
