Today's featured artist

Dean Adams stays active as a ceramics artist, professor of art and the Foundations coordinator in the The School of Art at Montana State University-Bozeman.

He is also a co-founder of the International Wild Clay Research Project at Montana State University. Considering the processes of wood-firing and using elements of architecture such as vertical space and the horizon provide points of departure. His poetic contemplations on the experience of emotions also play a central role in his work. Further, it is at these cross-sections and intersections of bodily movement in space, firing traditions, emotional and physical qualities that are conveyed through his work.

He earned his MFA at the University of Iowa.

Adams will be presenting a lecture titled “Hot Thoughts: Connecting the Kiln, Clay and Concept” focusing on his “work, the relationship of the kiln, materials, as well as his ideas, inspirations, and experiences as the formula to realize his work.”
