Toast the New Year at Yuma-area parties

The Yuma Sun is planning lots of great giveaways in celebration of the New Year.

* A Friday night prime rib and seafood dinner buffet for two

Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? Yuma County residents will have several options for ringing in the New Year.

Some local celebrations will feature live music, dancing, karaoke, party favors, midnight balloon drops and even cash giveaways.

• Celebrating the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013, the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Yuma 398 will host a New Year's Eve dance Monday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Eagles Hall, 225 S. 1st Ave. A no-host cocktail hour will be held from 8 to 9 p.m.

Music will be provided by Big Boss Band. Party favors will be handed out, and pozole will be served at midnight.

Admission is $25 per couple or $20 per person. For more information, call 783-6103.

• American Legion Post 56 will celebrate the New Year with a dance and a potluck of snacks. Music will be provided by a DJ. The celebration, which will be held at 1490 W. 3rd St., will start at 7 p.m.

The event is open to both members and nonmembers. There is no cost for admission, but attendees are invited to bring snacks to share with others.

• At Cocopah Casino, 15318 S. Avenue B in Somerton, partygoers will “Rush in the New Year” at the New Year's Players Celebration.

Guests will be able to enjoy a prime rib and seafood buffet for $20.12 from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Artisan Restaurant.

Then they can dance the night away to the Top 40 hits with The Basix. The celebration will also feature a special performance by La Vida Loca with Creación Norteño and “Bling Bling Karaoke” in the Sunset Lounge.

Players will get to enjoy $1 drinks all night long and champagne specials from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. or while supplies last.

The event is free for Ca$h Club members and $5 for nonmembers. To become a member, take a valid picture ID to the Player's Club booth a the casino and ask for a card. However, be sure to have the card on hand before the party starts.

In addition, for guests who would prefer to stay the night, Cocopah Resort will be offering rooms for $67.

• Both Paradise Casino and Quechan Casino Resort will hold celebrations with prime rib dinners, live music, hats, noisemakers, beads and the traditional balloon drops at midnight.

“So it should be quite an exciting and entertaining night,” noted Sandy Katona, marketing coordinator for the casinos.

Quechan Casino Resort will host the Rockin' New Year's Eve Party at the Pipa Event Center, 525 Algodones Road, Winterhaven, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Arizona time. The event is described as the ultimate party with a complete upscale dinner, music, dancing, party favors and balloon drop.

Entertainment will be provided by Just Dave Band, a dance group from Los Angeles, from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Guests must be 21 years and older to attend the party.

The New Year's Eve buffet is $30 per person or $50 per couple. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dinner tickets are available at StarTickets.com.

To attend the party only, the cover charge is $10 per person. Tickets for the cover charge will be available at the casino box office on Monday beginning at 8 p.m. Arizona time.

Partygoers at The Q will have a chance to win their share of $5,000 with the Cold Cash Giveaway. Cash drawings for $500 will be held every hour from 7 to 11 p.m. A final cash drawing for $2,500 will be held at 1:30 a.m.

Revelers celebrating New Year's Eve at Paradise Casino, 450 Quechan Road, Winterhaven, will be entertained by Checker'd Past, which will perform '80s hits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the bingo hall.

Jimmy Caves will entertain from 6:30 to 9 p.m., followed by DJ Rudy from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., both at Sharky's Bar and Bites.

Paradise will also be giving away $10,000 in cash prizes throughout the night. Two $500 cash winners will be drawn every hour from 7 to 11 p.m. The final drawing for $5,000 will be held at 1:30 a.m.

Admission is free.
