Coming 4 years to define Obama
The election is over! I suspect most everyone is glad — no more pesky phone calls, no more political mailings, etc. — but not everyone is happy with the results. We are a politically divided country and it is going to be difficult to solve our fiscal problems.
I have read and listened to the reasons the election came out the way it did, from a large number of talking heads, political operatives, politicians, et al. Some of them make sense while others simply are lamenting the results (pouting) and others are gloating. None of them deal with the realities of this election — it would be politically incorrect to do so (CYA at its finest).
The next four years will clearly define who Obama is. He doesn’t have to deal with re-election worries. Since there were nearly just as many people that voted against him as there were for him, will he govern accordingly or will he try to jam his programs/policies, etc. down everyone’s throat? We will see.
I’m left with a few disturbing realities. As a country we are moving toward an entitlement society, and if the trend continues it will destroy us from within. Try and explain why a president with as dismal a record as Obama could get re-elected.
A close look at the demographics of those who voted for Obama, and why, tell a scary story, and it’s something both Democrats and Republicans should be concerned about, unless they are more concerned about political power than they are the best interests of this nation.
Political campaigns have become disgusting. This election was the worst I have witnessed — inundated with lies, distortions and attempts to denigrate the person as opposed to their qualifications/experiences and their ability to lead.
The effect a biased media can (and did) have on elections should be a concern of all of us.
We can’t trust any of them for the whole truth and this election clearly showed that.
I suppose I could go on, but the bottom line is this: Obama won — he is our president. I love this country, or at least what it once was, and I want it to prosper and maintain its greatness. Therefore I want Obama to be successful in achieving those goals.
Can he do it? Does he really want to do it or is he interested in “reforming” America, using a European model? I guess we’ll see.
