Best Employment Staffing Service: YPIC

The Yuma Private Industry Council can put a foot in the door for people looking for jobs with the area's employers.

But it pushes the doors both ways. It can also connect employers with jobs to fill with area residents who can fill those positions.

“Our purpose is to open doors between employers and job seekers in Yuma County,” says Linda Jordan, the private industry council's business services officer.

YPIC, as the private industry council is known, was picked as providing the Best Employment Staffing Services in Yuma County in 2010, in the Yuma Sun's Yuma's Best poll of readers' favorite businesses, services and recreational and entertainment venues.

Headed by Executive Director John Morales, the federally funded nonprofit organizations offers a variety of services to both job hunters and to employers, depending on the clients' specific needs.

If the job seeker is making his or her first foray into the world of full-time employment, YPIC can offer training and workshops covering such topics as how to write a resume, how to dress properly for an interview and how to conduct oneself in the interview, Jordan said.

She used as one example a hypothetical worker who has been laid off by a company that employed him or her for many years: YPIC can help that person develop strategies for searching for employment in related or different career fields, for targeting specific employers in his or her search, and for using social media to help find employment.

And if any job seekers need it, they can use YPIC's office space to prepare their resumes or do Internet research of prospective employers.

YPIC also offers courses to help clients earn their GED high school equivalency certifications, and can refer them to organizations that can provide them training to careers in specific fields.

YPIC offers those services to youths between the ages of 16 and 21, as well as adults in the higher age ranges, said Jordan.

YPIC's services are “very diversified, depending on what the people need,” Jordan said. “Our only goal is to open doors between employers and job seekers.”

For more information, job seekers can call YPIC at 329-0990, or visit its website, www.ypic.com.
