Weekend's home show offers ideas, freebies
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Just in time to start the new year with new home improvement ideas, the Yuma Home and Garden Show will return Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the Yuma Civic Center.
"The Yuma Home and Garden Show will spawn all kinds of new ideas for home decorating and design, home improvement, new home building and landscaping," said Alan Beim, marketing director for American Shows Inc.
Three days of demonstrations and "how-to" seminars will be featured in the American Shows Inc. convention, as will special tutorials and educational displays from the Federated Garden Clubs of Yuma.
The Federated Garden Clubs will offer seminars on planting and staking trees, tree pruning, rose care, citrus trees, and medicinal and edible herbs. Attendees will learn more about gardening, conservation and floral design, as well as have the opportunity to purchase plants.
The Yuma home show has been growing over the past decade, Beim said. It's grown so much so that this year, American Shows Inc. decided to do something new in the form of entertainment with its "Nostalgia Home." where attendees can meet notable former stars of television.
Ruth Buzzi from the comedy-variety show "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" will be on hand along with Ken Osmond, known for his role as Eddie Haskell on the original "Leave It to Beaver," and Jon Provost, who became famous as young Timmy Martin with his invincible canine friend on "Lassie."
With a plethora of new ideas under one roof from ideas for home decorating and design, home improvement and building additions, organizers are expecting a good turnout.
Show attendees will have a chance to win cash prizes given away every hour as well as register at the show to win $8,000 worth of replacement windows for their home from Reliant Windows.
One lucky winner will also have the chance to win a free spa worth $10,000 from Garden Valley Pool and Patio in partnership with 95.1 KTTI, KQSR Star 100.9, KYMA-TV and the Yuma Home and Garden Show.
The show is open to the public Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets to the show are $5, or $4 with a coupon carried in The Sun. Children 16 years and younger are free.
