According to the March 17, 1958 issue of The Yuma Daily Sun, the name Parkview Hospital was suggested by Mary Lynn Dunnuck, the 1958 Easter Seal Girl. The reason for the name was that the hospital would have a view of the park planned nearby, which is now Smucker Park. The hospital, park, the Yuma Union High School district office and Kofa High School were all eventually developed on the original 345-acre site.
