Meet the MCAS Yuma support and training units
The fighter jockeys at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma often get all the glory; but there are several other units operating behind the scenes that provide critical functions in service of our nation.
These are the other units assigned to MCAS Yuma:
*Combat Logistics Company - 16, Los Lobos (CLC-16):
CLC-16 provides intermediate maintenance and supply support for tactical engineering, motor transport, ordnance, and utilities equipment in the greater Yuma area.
*Marine Air Control Squadron -1, The Falconers (MACS-1):
The squadron provides aerial surveillance, air traffic control, ground-controlled intercept, and aviation data-link connectivity for the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
*Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron -13, Black Widows (MALS-13):
They provide aviation ordnance, maintenance and logistics support, guidance and direction to Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) squadrons.
*Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron-1 (MAWTS-1):
The mission of MAWTS-1 is to provide standardized training in all aspects of the employment of Marine aviation units toward the accomplishment of their assigned mission.
*Marine Wing Support Squadron -371, Sandsharks (MWSS-371):
They perform all of the standard duties of a wing support squadron, including heavy equipment operation, motor transportation, aircraft rescue and firefighting, weather services, expeditionary airfield operations, fuels, utilities, explosive ordnance disposal, food service and engineering.
*Marine Fighter Training Squadron-401, Snipers (VMFT-401):
They are mostly Marine Corps Reserve pilots flying the F-5E Tiger II aircraft . They provide realistic training for Marine and Navy pilots, and are the only aggressor squadron in the Marine Corps. They simulate various threat aircraft types.
