Plans have been submitted for a renovation of the Pacific Avenue Walmart, similar to the work that was done awhile back to the Avenue B store, reported Alan Kircher, city of Yuma deputy building official. He said it will be a fairly extensive project involving repairs, maintenance and some reorganization.

---

In other city building activity, Kircher reported permits have been issued for:

• Installation of a solar system at the GH dairy processing plant on 24th Street at Avenue 3E.

• A third-floor loft apartment in the Gandolfo building.

• Tenant improvements for U.S. Customs at Yuma Commerce Center.

• Renovations of the Old Navy store at Yuma Palms Regional Center.

Just a little longer is the word for those looking for Sombrero Mexican Food to open at the corner of 24th Street and 4th Avenue.

Javier Correa Jr., who father founded the restaurant chain in Southern California, said late last week that the target opening date is June 3. The restaurant will include a dining room and drive thru.

---

For those who have been trying to find Yuma Senior Terraces, a new housing complex being developed for lower-income seniors, the address is 2317 S. 34th Drive. If that doesn't mean much, take 24th Street west past Avenue B nearly to Avenue C and the complex will be on the north side of 24th Street.

Good news for customers of 4 Paws Grooming Salon, which shares space with 4 Paws Inn at 11855 S. Fortuna Road in the Foothills. The grooming side of the business has moved into the neighboring space, giving it a lot more room, said owner Maggie Thrall. Along with the added space, there now are two groomers: Debbie Gorst and Robin Flimley, who has returned to 4 Paws.

In addition, the "inn" has expanded its play areas for boarding pets. The business also carries holistic dog and cat food, primarily the Solid Gold brand, for one-stop pet service.

The boarding service can still be reached at 345-6868 and the grooming salon at 345-0777.

After a "LONG hiatus," construction is expected to start back up this week on the new design center and office/warehouse for WOW Electronics, reported co-owner Jacquie Kukuk.

The building on the front of the lot at 1881 S. 4th Ave. will be the design center, and the building on the back of the lot will house offices and warehouse. As some of the groundwork and slabs have already been completed, it is expected the project will be completed in 90 days.

Kudos to my youngest roving reporter. Trever spotted the Golden Arches on a new construction project near Mesa Del Sol, solving the mystery of what is going in there. The 7-year-old is pretty happy about the McDonald's restaurant coming to his neighborhood.

The restaurant, located on North Frontage Road off Fortuna Road, is a tenant at Mesa Del Sol Commercial Centre. The 30-acre commercial subdivision is being developed by Scott Spencer's company, Hardknocks Limited Partnership.

Spencer said he expects McDonald's to open in August. And its name will be on a 75-foot sign he's erecting for the subdivision.

While he can't name names yet, he said he is working with other potential tenants "that are looking favorable."

Bison Express Shuttle has extended its shuttle service from Yuma to Tucson and back through an arrangement with Arizona Shuttle Service, said owner Bob Larsen.

How it works: Passengers will ride Bison Express Shuttle to the Phoenix airport, then transfer to Arizona Shuttle Service for the trip to Tucson. The Tucson service is available to connect with all Bison runs, including three times a day weekdays and once a day on weekends. Cost is $99 one way Yuma to Tucson or $176 for a round trip, with student and military discounts.

Larsen said he's received a lot of requests for the Tucson connection, especially from University of Arizona students and their families.

Richard Sprague, owner of Sprague's Sports, has reopened a park and sell operation at the front of his property at 345 W. 32nd St.

Now he's trying to attract a taco stand operator to set up and sell out of the lot's modular office. After all, he reasoned, 32nd Street has none and there are lots of employees for businesses in the area in need of lunch.

Any takers, call Sprague at 726-0022.
