Skywest Magazine looking for photos of Yuma
Not only will the Yuma area and its fledging agritourism campaign be featured in the November/December issue of SkyWest, the airline's inflight magazine for United Express, the community will be on the cover of the publication, the Yuma Visitors Bureau reported last week.
One of the magazine's requests is for high resolution photography. The Yuma Visitors Bureau's photo library does not have the type of photos they are looking for at this time and has put out an appeal for professional, high resolution photos of harvesting, unusual field shots, etc., that can be used.
Anyone with such photos is asked to contact Susan Sternitzke, YVB executive director, at 376-0100 or 246-9255.
The publication will be in every seatback in every Skywest (United Express) airplane - reaching 2.5 million people across the U.S., Sternitzke said.

Asian Star, the restaurant going into the new building nearing completion at 276 W. 32nd St. in the Big Curve Shopping Center, is moving closer to opening.
Humaei Chen, owner of the restaurant, is applying for a liquor license. His application was approved by the Yuma City Council last week and now goes to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control for final processing.
Also, Irene Crites, property manager for the shopping center, confirmed last week that another tenant in the new building will be a Subway sandwich shop.

Los Jalapenos Mexican restaurant and snack bar is opening this week at Mervyn's Plaza, 3250 S. 4th Ave. It is owned by Heriberto and Marcelina Duarte
Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, the restaurant can be reached at 539-9594.
The menu features tacos, burritos, menudo, enchiladas and other Mexican foods as well as smoothies and ice cream.

After a lengthy process, Tender Hearts Preschool & Daycare has received its license and can now take up to 34 children ages 2-1/2 to 12 years old, announced co-owner Karen Mitchell.
To acquaint parents with the new day-care center, it will have an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 12, with a jumper and refreshments.

Southern Mesa RV Park, 18540 S. Avenue 3E, has undergone some major renovations and upgrades, announced new owner D.L. “Dottie” Gilseth.
One significant upgrade is to the electrical system so all lots now have the amperage to run air conditioning, especially for the sake of permanent, year-round residents she hopes to attract, said Gilseth. She's also gone “green,” installing a solar system to heat the swimming pool and other common areas of the park.
