Scorpions drop two straight

The Yuma Scorpions left town with a six game winning streak.
When they hit the road Tuesday in Redding, Calif., against Chico, it was back to their losing ways.
Jose Canseco, Gerardo Avila and J.J. Muse all homered for the Scorpions but it was all they could muster of Chico starter Jason Stevenson in a 6-3 loss.
The teams played again Wednesday, with Yuma losing 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. No results were available from Game 2.
Stevenson pitched seven innings and scattered nine hits for Chico. His ERA rose to 1.82 as he went to 7-0 this year, winning all seven of his starts. Gilbert De La Vara (5-4) took the loss, allowing three earned in 4-2/3 innings for Yuma.
It was Avila’s 12th home run, the first 11 coming with Rio Valley. Canseco’s blast was his sixth. Yuma batters had 10 hits and 15 strikeouts in the game.
On Wednesday, Yuma tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Tony Phillips walked and was singled to second by Canseco. He went to third on a flyout by Arnoldo Ponce then scored on a groundout of the bat of Jared McDonald.
But James Garcia (1-1) gave up a run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to Brandon Fowler, his first in 61 at-bats this year. He’s currently hitting .197.
It was the first start of Garica’s that the Scorpions have lost since acquiring him July 22.
The teams continue the series today.
