Five Guys opens to booming business

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is now open at 1979 E. 16th St., Suite 1 (in the new multitenant building at the southwest corner of 16th Street and Pacific Avenue) and is doing a booming business.

As its name says, the restaurant focuses on hamburgers and fries and something to wash down the food.

The Rusty Spoon Cafe, Yuma's newest restaurant, has opened its doors at 2855 S. 4th Ave. in the Thunderbird Plaza featuring a country setting. It's operated by the Sullivan family, who have had previous restaurants in the Yuma area, announced Jettie Sullivan.

The cafe is and is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the summer, serving breakfast and lunch, including their award-winning chili and daily lunch specials. For more information and to order take out, call 314-4378 or visit www.rustyspooncafe.com.

There's a new place in town to purchase locally produced fruit and vegetables. Pablo Nava and wife Maribel have opened Produce Market at the corner of 8th Street and Avenue A. The couple previously operated Yuma Produce a few blocks away from their new location.

Nava said the couple's goal is to provide customers with produce fresh from the field. Produce Market also stocks dairy products and candy. It can be reached at 276-4562.

Family nurse practitioners Ana M. Rivera and Patricia Rodiguez have opened a medical clinic, Desert Sky Family Clinic of Yuma. It's located at 2180 S. 4th Ave., Suite A, in the Patina Plaza (north of Coco's Restaurant) and can be reached at 783-0919. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to noon Fridays.

Rivera is a graduate of the University of Arizona Family Nurse Practitioner program and Rodriguez is a graduate of the Arizona State University Family Nurse Practitioner program. Both are board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

The clinic offers comprehensive medical care from pediatrics to seniors. It will be accepting most health insurances. Both Rivera and Rodriquez and their staff are bilingual in English/Spanish.

Rue 21, which features teen and young adult fashions at discounted prices, is now open for business at Yuma Palms Regional Center in the space formerly occupied by Ann Taylor Loft.

The property at 771 S. 4th Ave. where Palagor Asian Fusion had been located, has been taken back by the Lau family and is for lease. Interested parties may contact Bede Lau at 782-7950 or 502-1422.

Palagor, operated by the owners of Highway 95 Cafe, had opened its doors in early 2009 but has been closed since the summer of 2010.

Previously, the property had been the longtime location for Gene's Restaurant operated by the Lau family.

Just a little longer is the word for those looking forward to the opening of Steiner's European Deli at 2630 S. 4th Ave. The target opening date of Aug. 1 has been pushed back to mid- to late August due to construction delays on the renovation of the building.

The new deli to be operated by Christine Stoner will feature German and other European fare.

Southwest Heart and Vascular Care has moved and is now located at 2692 S. Avenue A, Suite 1. The medical practice of Dr. Noel Gutierrez and Dr. Adrienne Gutierrez can be reached at 783-5857.

Dr. Bryan Freeman, a maternal fetal medicine specialist, has joined the medical staff of Women's Health Specialists, announced Yuma Regional Medical Center. Dr. Freeman comes to Yuma from Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix.

Maternal fetal medicine specialists are complementary to obstetricians in providing consultations, co-management or direct care for a complicated and at-risk patients both before and during pregnancy.

Just blocks away from the border crossing, the U Sell It swap meet is in a prime location to attract shoppers from neighboring Mexico, says Joe Harper, administrator of the just-opened venture.

Harper also is counting on the Area Service Highway, an express roadway that connects the east side of Yuma with the international border, to give year-round and winter residents of Yuma easy access to the swap meet located on the south end of San Luis at 972 E. Urtuzuastegui St.

The swap meet, owned by the family of state representative and customs broker Russ Jones, was unveiled July 30 in a ribbon cutting ceremony. It has capacity for 166 vendors selling new and used items. It also will feature live music.

Kohl's Department Stores is opening a store in El Centro in September and is currently hiring for approximately 130 new positions. A job fair is scheduled for Aug. 7-11.
