UA introduces
Jr. Biotech Project
The University of Arizona-Academic Outreach announces the creation of the Jr. Biotech Project resource center in Yuma. The center is housed at Arizona Western College's AS building and provides science labs and teacher resources for sixth- through 12th-grade teachers in Yuma County.
The Jr. Biotech Project was started with a grant from the Helios Foundation and collaborates with Yuma teachers to support the use of biotechnology techniques within their classrooms. The project provides for the professional development of teachers. It also offers equipment, including a mobile laboratory, for teachers to conduct activities in their classrooms.
The program is of no cost to the school, and teachers can earn professional development credit and possibly a stipend for participating.
For more information, contact Alyssa Haygood, Jr. Biotech coordinator in Yuma, at alyssahaygood@email.arizona.edu or 317-6069.
