Spirit of Yuma brings free show this weekend
Yuma will celebrate its love for the military this weekend with a three-day festival featuring everything from military band performances and art shows to old war movies and educational talks.
The event is called Spirit of Yuma: Honoring our Military — Past, Present & Future.
Admission to all events will be free. Vendors will be on hand with food and drinks for sale.
Here is the schedule of events:
FRIDAY
Location: Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St.
10 a.m. Welcome and introductions followed by 62nd Army Band Brass Quintet performance outside on stage
11 a.m.
- Vintage military movie “The Great Escape” in the Historic Yuma Theatre
- North End Artists Co-Op demonstration: Larry Yanez - hand building clay sculptures (in front of the Yuma Art Center) 1:30 p.m. Speaker from MCAS
2 p.m. North End Artists Co-Op demonstration: Rosemary Hawkey - painting (in front of the Yuma Art Center)
2:30 p.m. 62nd Army Band Brass Quintet performance in Historic Yuma Theatre

1 p.m. Carol Brooks, Arizona historical Society-Sanguinetti House Museum Curator, will give presentation about the history of Fort Yuma to WWI
1:45 p.m. William J. Heider, Yuma Proving Ground Museum Curator will speak on the history of Yuma Proving Ground involvement during WWII
3 p.m. Chuck Wullenjohn, Public Affairs Officer, will speak about the mission accomplished by the 3000 people of Yuma Proving Ground today
